Global, Inc. performed quarterly and biannual environmental monitoring and safety audits on the Kobuleti Bypass road construction project in the Adjara province of the Republic of Georgia. The environmental monitoring focused on the impacts of road construction work on adjacent natural ecosystems (e.g., forests and wetlands), endangered fauna and flora, cultural resources, and management of soil and water resources (including storm water management), air quality, and construction waste.

The safety audits focused on the health and safety of construction workers and local communities living in the project area. This included the evaluation of relevant documentation (e.g., permits, incident reports, complaints from local authorities), maintenance of vehicles, equipment and machinery, water and sanitation facilities, use of personal protective equipment, fire safety, confined spaces, electrical hazards, welding safety, safety communication, storage of chemicals, management of hazardous waste, and fall hazards.

Based on the findings of the environmental inspections and safety audits, Global’s EHS specialists conducted awareness workshops for construction supervisors and local environmental and safety specialists, and monitored the implementation of relevant corrective measures.
